How a smart person becomes smarter !!

Empty your cup

Once, a long time ago, there was a wise Zen master. People from far and near would seek his counsel and ask for his wisdom. Many would come and ask him to teach them, enlighten them in the way of Zen. He seldom turned any away.
One day an important man, a man used to command and obedience came to visit the master. “I have come today to ask you to teach me about Zen. Open my mind to enlightenment.” The tone of the important man’s voice was one used to getting his own way.
The Zen master smiled and said that they should discuss the matter over a cup of tea. When the tea was served the master poured his visitor a cup. He poured and he poured and the tea rose to the rim and began to spill over the table and finally onto the robes of the wealthy man. Finally, the visitor shouted, “Enough. You are spilling the tea all over. Can’t you see the cup is full?”
The master stopped pouring and smiled at his guest. “You are like this tea cup, so full that nothing more can be added. Come back to me when the cup is empty. ”
By staying quiet, a person allows more tea to flow into their cup, more wisdom to flow into their mind. It creates the opportunity for other ideas to flow in, and thus, a smart person becomes smarter.

The little soft skills

  1. Respect everyone equally. As humans, we’re all the same. We eat, drink and sleep just like everybody else. A reputable CEO and an unknown janitor deserve the same level of respect. Treating everyone equally shows that you’re a real gentleman/woman.
  2. Greet people before they greet you. Greeting people is considered as a good deed because it can really lift someone up, especially the shy or lonely ones.
  3. Remembering people’s name. “Thank you.” and “Thank You, Ben.” - Which is better and warmer?
  4. Thank people genuinely for their help, no matter how small it is. No help should be taken for granted. No amount of soft skills can support a person without gratitude.
  5. Never curse people however angry you get. Instead, communicate your problems constructively. Seek to understand, then to be understood.
Last but not least (PLEASE PRACTICE THE LAST ONE, IT’S SIMPLE!)…
  1. Smile at people. Smiling is contagious. You won’t run out of smiles, so why keep it to yourself?
These six simple soft skills are easy yet powerful.

Quotes from Movies

Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t how hard you hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done. Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain’t you. You’re better than that!”

Bhai Vir Singh - 'maker of modern Punjabi literature'

Here are some of DEW DROPS from a Poet, novelist, editor, exegete, historian and journalist  - Bhai Vir Singh

Vision (Didar)

o Reality of this scene,
    Do not cast us aside!
Deep inside you somewhere,
     Lie our music and kelodies;
If you keep us tucked in your interstices,
     You'll bloom and rejoice;
You gave us the gift of eyes -
May we never lose you. from sight!

Eyes (Ankhian)

Eyes formed from
The pain to see the formless
Forged in front of our faces
       Fashioned in form exterior -
They see exquisite scenes
       And savour delicious joy.
But The hunger for the formless doesn't go:
Flitting on forms, they famish for more

Things Everyone Should Know

  • 80% people's conversations are complaining. Be among the rest 20%.
  • Never brag about yourself. It reduces your worth.
  • People with low self esteem are often bullies and critics. Ignore their existence.
  • Wanna take revenge on someone? Forgive him.
  • Confidence is an armour. Wear it. Don't have it? Fake it until you get it.
  • Work on your knowledge. Improve your skills. Bootlicking and manipulation can take you up but it won't help you in staying there.
  • Ego, overthinking, procrastination, anger, hate are the perfect emotions for self-destruction. Don't possess them.
  • Hard work beats talent. Polish your ability till it becomes your skill.
  • Be afraid of those who don't react. They are the ones who actually think. They are dangerous.
  • Never trust anyone who doesn't walk his talk. NEVER.
  • Everything takes it own time. Have patience.
  • Smile. Breathe and move on.
